Johannes is a Baritone from Herefordshire who combines ‘an arrestingly powerful voice with an exuberant personality’ (Opera Magazine). He studied on the Royal Academy of Music Opera Studio, and is singing at Glyndebourne Opera House. With Glyndebourne he has performed in Carmen, The Magic Flute, The Merry Widow, La Traviata (cover) and most recently Il Turco in Italia, as Prosdocimo (cover).

With Royal Academy Opera, he performed roles including: Sid- Albert Herring, Slook- La Cambiale di Matrimonio, Antonio, Il Conte (cover)- Le Nozze di Figaro, Nick Shadow (cover) -The Rakes Progress, Theseus- Midsummer Nights Dream. Other roles include Sir John Falstaff, Vaughan-Williams Sir John in Love ‘a Falstaff of serious power.. glossy and even from top to bottom’ (arts desk) with British Youth Opera, and Aeneas-Dido and Aeneas, Gianni Schicchi, with Edinburgh Studio Opera. In Opera scenes at the Royal Academy he has performed as Tarquinius- Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia , Don Giovanni, Guglielmo -Cosi Fan Tutte, Malatesta -Don Pasquale, Marcello-La Boheme, and Sulplice -La Fille du Regiment. He studied on the prestigious Solti Accademia with Jonathan Papp, Leo Nucci and Richard Bonynge.

As a recitalist, he has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Leeds Lieder, St John Smiths Square, Trinity College Cambridge, Ludlow Song Festival, and across China with International Young Soloists. He is the winner of the Richard Lewis Song prize at the Royal Academy 2022, the Copenhagen Lied-Duo competition 2023 and the David Clover competition 2024. Some recital highlights include recitals of Finzi’s Earth Air and Rain and Vaughan Williams House of Life, Ravel’s L’histoire Naturelles, and a recital of music for Harp and voice by Britten, Paul Mealor, with Anna Semple’s cycle premiere ‘Invisible.’ He was part of the Bicentenary project at RAM to record all of Wolf’s Goethe Lieder, and was a member of the Academy’s Song Circle, and the Wigmore hall’s French Song Exchange with Dame Felicity Lott and François Le Roux.

Johannes maintains a busy Oratorio schedule and has regularly sings in venues across the UK. Recent and future highlights include Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall, Mephistopheles in Lili Boulanger’s Faust et Helene at the Dukes Hall, and Mozart Requiem at the Cadogan Hall. Other repertoire includes Brahms Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Mozart Coronation mass, Mass in C Minor, Haydn Missa Sancti St Nicolai, The Creation and The Seasons, Gounod Messe Solenelle, Puccini Messi di Gloria, Mendelssohn Elijah, Dvorak Mass in G, Howard Goodhall’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Coronation Anthems, and Samson, Bach’s St John and St Matthew Passions, Christmas Oratorio and B Minor Mass. Venues include Lincoln Cathedral, Bath Abbey, Hereford Cathedral, Cadogan Hall, St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh, and Barnes Festival. As a Köln Foundation scholar at RAM, he performed Cantatas under Sir John Butt, Masaki Suzuki, and Philippe Herreweghe; notably as Christus in St John Passion.
